On October 21, 2015, Nouf and I facilitated our Edmodo Workshop for the first time. Overall, I felt that the workshop went very well.
What went well:
What could have been better:
What went well:
- We stayed within the 2-hour time constraint without rushing any of the learners
- The students were able to complete all of their tasks without too much trouble
- The class had a good discussion about course management systems and their effect on education
- For the scenario we chose, I believe we hit the most important points for managing a college-level course on Edmodo. In the future, I would adjust the content based on the audience.
- Even with the technical difficulties (entire presentation system not working), we were able to easily set up in another classroom. This was an easy transition because:
- Our presentation was on Google Drive
- The students were instructed to bring their own devices, instead of relying on a classroom set of computers
- Our presentation was on Google Drive
What could have been better:
- We overestimated the amount of time the learners would need to complete their tasks. However, we were able to adjust the timeline accordingly. Moving forward, I would allow for 40 minutes to complete the tasks, rather than an hour.
- It would have been nice to include the Microsoft Office integration in the workshop. Since we found extra time, I might include that piece moving forward.
- Since there was a very large gap of time between the students who finished first and those who finished last, I might try to find another activity the students can do while waiting. In this case, the doughnuts helped to ease the waiting time.
